I unironically love Stinky, and yes I know he’s not officially named here, I might have met them as the slightly more fluffy later version (and don’t ask if they’re the same cat, it’s complicated). Streaky may have fallen by the wayside but from this point onwards when PeeGee has a solo title a version of Stinky has padded along on his cute little paws!
Technically this a sequel to JSA #37, all that’s important is that Stinky gets into the US Embassy and scratches Guy Gardner before being teleported to the Paris embassy!
We start with a tour of kids being expertly handled by Elongated Man, after Captain Atom chokes, with even Kara being in a good mood teasing the Captain. Meanwhile Stinky arrives and begins to explore, managing to disturb a cat burglar (heh) sneaking in using the giant hole in the mansion (caused back in issue #10).
After the burglar literally kicks the cat, to obviously show he’s evil, Stinky enters the control room of the not!danger room turning off the sag=feties (as all good danger rooms have) causing Flash an d Crimson Fox to fae the worse the simulator has to offer, it has tentacles…
Captain Atom saves the day, whilst Catherine figures they have an intruder, and the burglar well burgles. Luckily Stinky decides to sleep on the big red alert button , which for some reason causes an alarm in the New York embassy as well. Wally is a jerk to PeeGee, so somewhat karmically get’s a face full of cat whilst sleeping, which causes him to panic and throw the cat at a just arrived Guy Gardner. Hilarity ensues as the fleeing cat barrels pass Captain Atom causing hm to go ass over tit, on camera and in front of the kids, just before the rest of the JLA burst through the embassy doors.
All through this the cat burglar has been getting away with his robbery scott free (the action not the character) before a vengeful Stinky attacks the thief, causing him to flee the building without his loot. All ends well though as the JLE get some good press, for once, for the “show” they put on for the kids, whilst Stinky adopts PeeGee, the only character that seems to get only with our feral kitty.
This was just a fun breather issue, one of two, between two fairly heavy stories, and I can’t hep but enjoy the slapstick fun of the whole thing! Really it’s telling that of all the things that happen to Power Girl through her time in the Justice League the only thing that really stuck was Stinky (or a version thereof).
